Was just reading the wonderful blog entry by Ornella Whelan which linked a video illustrating the educational value of video games, particularly Minecraft. My younger brother has been playing this game for some time now and after watching him a few times I can understand why he enjoys it but it’s definitely not my cup of tea. I was, however, very surprised to find that it could be used in education. I had previously thought it would be a great tool for teaching architecture but unbeknownst to me, it can be used to teach mathematics, language, communication, physics and I’m sure the list goes on.
This is just another point that reinforces how powerful ICTs are to education and if you think outside the box, you can create completely new experiences.
